Welcome
Established in 1997, the Tribal Libraries Program (TLP) of the New Mexico State Library offers dedicated library development services tailored to the unique needs of tribal communities across the state. The main administrative office is based in Santa Fe, with regional staff located in Crownpoint to support the Navajo communities of northwestern New Mexico.
Vision Statement
Empowering Tribal communities across New Mexico with vibrant, sustainable libraries that honor Indigenous knowledge, languages, and traditions while fostering lifelong learning, connection, and cultural resilience.
Mission Statement
The Tribal Libraries Program at the New Mexico State Library supports and centers the priorities of New Mexico’s Tribal public libraries through funding, technical assistance, professional development, partnerships, and collaborative initiatives. Working in partnership with Tribal governments and communities, we advance library services that reflect Indigenous values, sovereignty, and community priorities, while celebrating diverse histories, languages, and cultures and expanding access to information, technology, and opportunities for growth.
