New Mexico Public Library Survey (a.k.a Annual Report) and State Grants-in-Aid Application Information
The New Mexico State Library (NMSL) participates in the national Public Libraries Survey (PLS) operated by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) with data collection support from the American Institutes for Research (AIR). Survey responses become part of a national file of public library data that is available to the library research community, state and federal policy makers, and other interested users. The data collected is often used by local, state and federal agencies for planning, evaluating and budgeting. More information about the PLS can be found on the IMLS website.
- Recognized New Mexico public and tribal public libraries complete and submit the PLS to the NMSL reflecting financials, services, and acquisitions data based on the state fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). The data is collected in compliance with the 4.5.2 New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC) which requires public & tribal public libraries to complete a PLS to participate in State Grants-In-Aid and other state funding programs administered by the NMSL.
- Completing the PLS serves as the application for State Grants-in-Aid. Data from the survey is used to determine a recognized public library’s eligibility.
- The PLS is open from July 1 through mid-August and covers library business and activities from the previous fiscal year. Surveys are completed online using Baker & Taylor’s Bibliostat Collect (via https://collectconnect.baker-taylor.com/login.aspx).
- View the Annual Report LibGuide for more detailed information and to view useful training materials, etc.
Below are summary files of previous years PLS data that reflect what New Mexico public and tribal public libraries reported to the NMSL. Data submitted in these reports cover library activities and business from July 1 – June 30 ONLY.
