Librarian & Librarianship Certification

For a public library to be eligible to receive public funds under the 4.5.2 New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC) the current public library director in communities with a population of 3,000 – 15,000+ are required to obtain certification (Grade I or Grade II).

Library directors in communities with a population of fewer than 3,000 are not required to obtain certification.

Certification is mandated by statute in the New Mexico Statutes Annotated (NMSA), Chapter 18, Articles 2-8 through 2-18. To view the statute, visit the the New Mexico Compilation Commission website.

If you are not a current library director, but would like to learn more about librarianship, please see #14 in the FAQs about the Exam.***
