Visit to the Sunland Park Community Library

In May, Carmelita Aragon and I visited the Sunland Park Community Library is southern New Mexico. It’s located in a complex with city hall and the police department with a beautiful view of the mountains.

It’s a bright, open space with lots of seating and beautifully carved, wooden shelf caps. They have a wide collection and expanding Spanish collection.

The children’s section has a cozy place to curl up with a good book, as well as gun characters on the top of the shelves. They were just getting ready to start decorating for Summer Reading but still had the beautiful spring decorations up (including a fun “Read with your Peeps” poster!).

When we arrived there was a group of women who meet at the library twice a week to work on crafts! They were more than happy to show off some of their hard work!

If you’re ever south of Las Cruces, stop by the Sunland Park Community Library and say hello to their director, Crystal Jaime and check out the great space or maybe you’ll be lucky enough to catch one of their events like a community egg hunt!
