Summer Reading in Tucumcari

A book mural adorns the front of the Tucumcari Public Library.

The spacious children’s area allows room for browsing, reading, games, and programs.

The Tucumcari Public Library in Tucumcari, NM, was a buzz of activity on the first day of registration for the Summer Reading Program.

The mural on the outside of the library is the perfect photo spot for Color Our World!

The library is hosting an 8-week program following the Color Our World theme. Library Director Linda Gonzalez and Library Clerk Victoria Najera have created a fun program with special guests, crafts, movies, and lunches available for registered children. On the day of our visit, patrons were signing up for the Summer Reading Program, turning in their reading logs for prizes, and enjoying browsing for books in the spacious children’s area.  On the opposite side of the library, an adult sewing class was in full swing.

Library Director Linda Gonzales has also partnered with the local elementary school so that young patrons participating in the Public Education Department’s June summer reading tutoring program can participate in both programs.  The Tucumcari Public Library provides vital services all throughout the year for their community – but really shines in summer!
