The New Mexico State Library Librarian is hiring a documents cataloger responsible for cataloging, classifying and processing State and Federal documents (both print and electronic) using established national and local rules and guidelines to ensure that library users can readily identify and locate these government documents and related information in the State Library’s online catalog. The Librarian is responsible for locating and downloading a copy of the record (if available) for the item in-hand from the OCLC bibliographic database commonly known as WorldCat. In addition, the Librarian reviews Federal government records received from Marcive, Inc., a subscription-based service, supplying federal government records. Records added to the State Library’s online catalog may be for materials in the circulating and / or reference government documents collections. The Librarian may also create original cataloging (no record available for copy) under the direction of the bureau’s Principal Cataloger. Processing materials includes application of property stamps, spine labels, Mylar protective coverings, and specialized containers for certain non-book materials. This position requires a Master’s Degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA), and a copy of transcripts must be included in the online application process.
