Kelly McCabe has joined the New Mexico State Library as our new Youth Services Coordinator. Kelly brings over 25 years of experience in libraries and education, working with both children and adults. For the last nine years Kelly served as a Teacher Librarian for Santa Fe Public Schools, with four years as the district library co-lead responsible for library staff training and advocacy. In 2019, she was recognized by the Santa Fe Board of Education as a recipient of an Excellence in Student Achievement Award for her work in creating a culture of reading in her school library. Prior to her move to New Mexico ten years ago she lived in Philadelphia and worked at the American Philosophical Society Library, first as a Save America’s Treasures archival technician and then as Serials Librarian and Technical Services Coordinator. Kelly completed her Master of Science in Library Science degree at Clarion University and attended the College of William and Mary for her Master of Arts in Education. She is also a licensed K-8 Teacher.
Kelly has already begun visiting libraries around the state and is excited to help our youth services staff expand and improve their already robust programming. Kelly is an avid reader and library user, and frequently hijacks family vacations for visits to local libraries.
