New Mexico State Library Welcomes New Library Development Bureau Chief Dale Savage

On November 19, 2018, Dale Savage joined the New Mexico State Library as the head of the Library Development Bureau. He comes to NMSL from the Arizona State Library where he served as the Continuing Education Coordinator for 8 years. Prior to that, he was the La Paz County Librarian and Director of Parker Public Library, a Library Journal 5-Star Library. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona SIRLS program and worked at various branches in the Pima County Public Library while working on his library degree.

He has served on the Maricopa County Library Council Continuing Education Committee and is a founding member of the AzLA Professional Development Committee. He served 4 years on the MPLA Board and 5 years on the AzLA Executive Board. In 2016, Dale was the recipient of AzLA’s Newton and Betty Rosenzweig Distinguished Service Award for 10 years of service to libraries and librarians of Arizona.Prior to becoming a librarian, Dale worked for 25 years as a linguist-anthropologist supporting mother tongue literature and literacy in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea.
