On behalf of NMSL and all the kids and parents and grandparents and society in general and teachers and future employers in New Mexico, I would like to thank all the 118 public, tribal, military and non-profit libraries that took on the challenge of summer reading this year. It is a big deal — so pat yourselves on the back! Libraries not only give the kids a welcoming (and air conditioned!) space to come and engage in cultural and community experiences, they are key to fighting the “summer slide.” Kids learn all year long how to read in school, and in the summer they get to have fun with it.
We are in the process of collecting and compiling survey results now — so far things look great. Here are the links for the surveys — please fill one out if you haven’t already. (They will be active until September.)
