Making Digital Equity Happen

Through select grant funding, the New Mexico State Library’s Digital Equity Program is working to bridge the digital divide by building partnerships, conducting outreach, and providing educational resources and training to librarians.

UNM Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center has created two new exhibits: Contagion: An Introduction to Infectious Disease and New Mexico Health History and Diabetes in New Mexico: The Story of the New Mexico Insulin Pump. The exhibits will be available for display starting May 1st. – New

The New Mexico State Library has secured Congressionally Directed Spending funding from Senator Martin Heinrich to support distance learning and telemedicine initiatives in libraries. We are currently delivering 179 new desktop computers to public, community, tribal, nonprofit, and Navajo Chapter libraries in need.

On Monday, March 31, 2025, the New Mexico State Library delivered a computer to the Hatch Public Library to support statewide digital access efforts.

Through a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture, the New Mexico State Library is supporting telehealth in libraries by shipping and assembling ‘Whisper Booths’ at Aztec Public Library, Mescalero Community Library, Fort Sumner Public Library, and Octavia Fellin Public Library. Libraries have also begun an inaugural cohort led by Deirdre Caparoso with UNM Health and Information Science Library to build capacity for telehealth services and community health partnerships.
