GO Bonds

State General Obligation (GO) Bond Funding

The New Mexico State Library (NMSL) oversees and administers State GO Bond funding for New Mexico’s recognized Public Libraries and Tribal Public Libraries.

Public library bond program funds may be approved by the state legislature only during legislative sessions convened in even numbered years and then are voted upon by voters in the November statewide election. The amount received for distribution may vary depending on the amounts approved by the state legislature and subsequently by the voters.

The purpose of the New Mexico Public Library GO Bond program is to provide supplemental funds for public libraries. Funds for the public library bond program are intended to supplement local effort in providing local public library service. The public library GO bond program funds public library resources and equipment for public libraries statewide and also provides support for NMSL Rural Library Services (Books by Mail & Bookmobiles).

State GO bonds are governed first and foremost by the legislative language in the applicable GO Bond Bill and then by the 4.5.8 New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC).
