Why does the job exist?

The Tribal Libraries Coordinator consults, trains and advises the tribal librarians and the boards of the tribal libraries of New Mexico. This position will promote and advocate for tribal libraries.

How does it get done?

*   Provides administration of tribal library programs and budget
*   Coordinates payments of state aid and General Obligation Bond payments
*   Serves as liaison between tribal librarians and the New Mexico State Library
*   Provides presentations to tribal leadership, makes decisions, and accesses the New Mexico tribal libraries longitudinal data for constant improvement of tribal services in New Mexico
*   Assists tribal librarians with the summer reading program

*   Tribal employees working on behalf of tribal libraries
*   Colleagues at the NM State Library and other Department of Cultural Affairs divisions

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal candidate has experience with:
–    A public library demonstrating progressive professional development as well as responsibilities
–   Good written and verbal communication skills
–   Building productive relationships through political acumen and effectiveness

Minimum Qualification

Master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or recognized by the appropriate body of another country) with two (2) years of experience in performing and providing advanced library technical operations, effective library and information services, plus cataloging experience and managerial experience. Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.  Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Office setting, sitting, standing, bending and lifting required.  Overnight in state travel regularly required.  Requires travel to Pueblo, Apache and Navajo tribal libraries throughout the state and collaborates with other divisions of Department of Cultural Affairs and state agencies to Improve tribal library services and programs.  This position actively seeks out opportunities for partnerships and/or pilot programs in the federal, state and private sectors.
