The New Mexico State Library, Library for the Blind and Print Disabled is hiring a full-time Specialized Library Technician to support duplication of over 130,000 audio book and magazine titles available through the National Library Service.

Salary: $16.48 – $25.54 hourly / $34,275 – $53,126 Annually / Pay Band 50

Created in 1978 by the New Mexico Legislature, the Department of Cultural Affairs represents New Mexico’s dedication to preserving and celebrating the cultural integrity and diversity of our state. The Department oversees a broad range of New Mexico’s arts and cultural heritage agencies. These include 15 divisions representing a variety of programs and services.
Position is responsible for support with several technical and patron service-oriented tasks for the Library for the Blind and Print Disabled. These tasks include duplication of books, collection inventory and maintenance, mailing and shipping, and patron and volunteer interaction. Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.

How does it get done? The Specialized Library Technician supports duplication of over 130,000 audio book and magazine titles available through the National Library Service to nearly 3,000 eligible users of the State Library’s Library for the Blind and Print Disabled (LBPD). Tasks include duplication of books using specialized equipment, shipping and receiving of materials, providing reader advisory and patron services as needed, assisting with local recording productions and editing, and supporting other service areas such as accessibility and outreach.

Who are the customers? Eligible blind physically disabled and reading impaired persons throughout New Mexico along with institutions, such as public schools and nursing facilities, serving these persons.

Ideal Candidate: Ideal candidate will have experience and working knowledge in the following areas: customer service via direct contact and through using communication tools such as phone and email; experience with computer databases storing and serving customer accounts and interests; experience with Microsoft 365 (Office) software tools; experience with or knowledge of audio and braille book and magazine content and access.
