The University of New Mexico, College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences (UL&LS), has an opening for a full-time Senior Operations Manager based in Zimmerman Library. We seek a service-oriented individual with a proven ability to lead and manage in a collaborative environment. The position joins the Access Services team, which supports frontline access to library services (circulation, reserves, information/reference), resources (physical and digital collections, resource sharing), and spaces (group and individual spaces for learning and research). The Senior Operations Manager oversees frontline public services delivery and operations for Zimmerman Library. The position directly supervises and supports the Zimmerman Access Services staff team (currently 8-10 FTE), including the Library Service Coordinators for Circulation & Reserves and Student Employment. The position also supports the hiring, training, and development of student employees. The position works to ensure welcoming, safe, and engaging spaces for learning and research within Zimmerman Library. Zimmerman Library, the largest of UNM’s four main campus libraries, supports the teaching and research programs of the University with a focus on the humanities, social sciences, and education. Zimmerman holds 1 million volumes, and government documents, newspaper, and microformat collections. Zimmerman is also home to the Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections (CSWR), and the College’s Organization, Information, & Learning Sciences (OILS) program. Located in the center of campus, Zimmerman is a large (280,000 square feet) and heavily used (5,000 visitors per day) library, providing a variety of study and learning spaces, including the Zimmerman Library Learning Commons. Zimmerman is open 7 days and 131 hours per week during the academic year, and shifts to 24 hour services during midterms and finals. Within Access Services, the Senior Operations Manager convenes the Access Services Library Operations Managers group, leads special projects, and coordinates the on-call staff pool to support supplemental service delivery across University Libraries’ three Central Campus libraries. The position works closely with the Library Operations Manager for Resource Sharing and the Senior Operations Manager for Collections to ensure smooth delivery of shared service areas and appropriate stewardship of collections. The position serves on the Access Services and Public Services Leadership teams, forging positive relationships between and within groups focused on the development, delivery, and assessment of user-focused services. The position reports to the Director of Access Services & Undergraduate Engagement. UNM is a member of the Association of Research Libraries, the Greater Western Library Alliance, and the New Mexico Consortium of Academic Libraries. University Libraries on UNM’s Central Campus contains over 3 million volumes and includes three libraries: Centennial Science & Engineering Library, Fine Arts & Design Library, and Zimmerman Library (humanities, social sciences, business/economics, and education). A new facility, the South Campus Repository, is currently being renovated, and will serve as a long-term repository for library collections. Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
Preferred Qualifications |
· At least one year of experience planning, organizing, and overseeing access and information services in an academic library setting. · At least one year of experience hiring, supervising, and supporting the development of staff and student employees. · Experience managing building operations, including maintaining building hours, ensuring a safe and secure environment, and coordinating facilities and equipment maintenance. · Experience developing, implementing, and interpreting goals, policies, and procedures. · Demonstrated ability to analyze workflows and troubleshoot complex access services issues. · Demonstrated ability to work creatively, collaboratively and effectively, as a team member and leader. · Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. · Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and student success.
