Purpose of Position

THIS POSTING WILL BE USED TO CONDUCT ONGOING RECRUITMENT AND WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED.

Why does the job exist?

This position resides at the New Mexico State Library in Santa Fe. As part of the Public Services Bureau, this position provides basic level information services to library customers. This position is responsible for the daily operation of and will assist with improvements to the statewide interlibrary borrowing and lending system for small, rural, and prison libraries in order to effectively meet the needs of library users in New Mexico. This position is responsible for staffing the main reference desk and conducting basic research in order to respond to information requests.

How does it get done?

Iliad Services – performs daily statewide interlibrary borrowing and lending operations tasks, Including library customer communication tasks as necessary.
Reference Services – provides direct reference service to the public by serving 10 to 15 hours per week on the reference desk and responding to customer inquiries.

Ideal Candidate

Knowledge of or experience providing adult research and reference support in a library setting.
Knowledge of or experience providing interlibrary loan services.
Knowledge of or experience conducting basic library research.
Initiative and strong customer service commitment.

Minimum Qualification

Master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or recognized by the appropriate body of another country). Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Executive Order 2021-066 requires all employees with the State of New Mexico to provide either proof of COVID-19 vaccination (including proof of a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster dose) or proof of a COVID-19 viral test every week.

The Public Health Order (on Vaccination) dated December 2, 2021, requires Congregate Care Facility Workers and Hospital Workers to have received a primary series of vaccination by October 6, 2021, and a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster.

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminals and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching is required. Occasional lifting and/or pushing of boxes or books weighing up to 40 pounds
