Why does the job exist?
This position provides Reader Advisory support to about 2,000 blind, visually impaired, and print disabled individuals throughout New Mexico as well as institutions serving these eligible persons. LBPD is a member of a nationwide network affiliated with the National Library Service of the Library of Congress that provides audio and braille book and magazine services via direct mail and download options.
How does it get done? The Reader Advisor (RA) processes and maintains the currency of new and established applications, handles ingoing and outgoing patron transfers, responds to library user requests and questions via phone, e-mail, fax and in person, troubleshoots technical issues such as those related to book player use and the downloading of books, assists with the selection of new titles and developing of patron preferences, coordinates book delivery, and performs other related, needed tasks in coordination with fellow staff in the fulfillment of overall quality services.
Who are the customers? This position serves eligible blind, physically disabled, and reading impaired citizens throughout New Mexico along with institutions, such as public schools and nursing facilities, serving such citizens.
Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.
