Working Title Library Technical Services Manager

Position Summary The Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (HSLIC) is looking for a dynamic and detail-oriented individual for the library’s Technical Services Manager in the Resources, Archives and Discovery (RAD) unit.  The RAD unit is responsible for the selection and acquisition of general and special collections, managing exhibits, maintaining records for the digital repository, and maintaining vendor/publisher relations.

The Library Technical Services Manager provides stewardship and oversight of the library’s Integrated Library System (ILS) – including management of the electronic resource management tool/knowledge base, cataloging, as well as developing and maintaining of user interfaces for better discovery of library resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains user interfaces for the discovery and delivery of library collections and library technical services.
  • Provides copy and original cataloging of library materials (general and special collections – including e-books, monographs, serials, rare-books, manuscripts, data-sets, and audiovisual material) according to local and national standards.
  • Develops and implements procedures to integrate and maintain library systems with campus, university, or third-party systems and applications.
  • Works with library and HSC faculty in managing course reserves.
  • Prepares and maintains reports and statistical data from various systems to assist the library in maximizing data-driven decision-making.
  • Documents workflows, standards, and procedures related to the library systems, services, and related applications.
  • Analyzes current and proposed library systems; may provide configuration of advanced systems including data migration.
  • Participates in the review, evaluation, and recommendation of emerging technologies, software, and/or tools to aid in the promotion and delivery of library resources.
  • Maintains awareness of technical advances in discovery systems, web development and protocols through engagement with local and national professional communities, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Supervises the Library Services Coordinator for electronic resource management, and provides functional direction for student employees and other library staff as needed.
  • Provides shelf management for the library and related projects.
  • May perform record loads and configure new collections and data sources and work to integrate records from disparate systems into the discovery system.
  • May use available APIs and web services, develop or modify API scripts as needed for data retrieval and system integrations with third-party applications and systems.
  • Serves on library committees.

  • Specialty licensure/certification may be required, as specified by the department.
  • Successful candidate may be subject to a criminal background check prior to starting work.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree; at least 1 year of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Higher education and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree, at time of hire, in library or information science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.
  • Experience working in an academic library performing similar job duties.
  • Proficiency with copy and original cataloging of library materials.
  • Experience in managing complex library systems, creating and maintaining records, electronic resources management tools, or knowledge base such as WorldShare, Sierra, EBSCO Discovery Services, etc.
  • Proficiency creating metadata and/or schemas for digital library management systems or digital asset management systems.
  • Experience with project management and the ability to resolve complex problems and issues.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
