Employment Opportunity: Librarian Senior (Public Programs), Thomas Branigan Library

Thomas Branigan Memorial Library (TBML) in Las Cruces, New Mexico, seeks a dynamic, creative, and customer-service-oriented person for a Senior Librarian position in our Public Programs section.

Branigan Library’s primary service area is the City of Las Cruces, and it is also an essential resource for the rural areas immediately surrounding the city in Doña Ana County. The County has an estimated population of 218,195, with approximately 47.4% living in the City of Las Cruces. Located just north of the U.S.-Mexico border, Las Cruces and Doña Ana County are home to a multicultural, “borderland” community where nearly 69% of the County’s population is Hispanic/Latinx.

TBML serves a population of over 120,000, circulates more than 30,000 materials each month, and sees nearly 385,000 visitors annually. TBML helps to bridge the digital divide through its available computer labs and other technology and equipment. TBML is a vibrant community center, providing more than 630 programs for all ages, reaching nearly 13,000 participants each year. TBML has extensive experience with community-wide programming, engaging numerous partners in innovative programming and involving residents of all ages.

TBML is part of the Quality-of-Life Department of the City of Las Cruces, including the Las Cruces Museums System, Senior Services, Volunteer Network Services, and Public Art. The library frequently collaborates with these other sections for programming and events.

The successful candidate will oversee three professional librarians and direct reference services, and adult programming for the library. We are looking for someone with a thorough knowledge of/ experience working with diverse communities, primarily Hispanic and Latinx communities, and planning and implementing culturally relevant programs. An ability to speak, write and read Spanish is preferred but not required. This position reports directly to the Library Manager for Public Programs and is a senior member of the library’s management team. A master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited university is required.
