Why does the job exist?

The Librarian position at the National Hispanic Cultural Center operates a research library focused on Hispanic history, genealogy, culture and the arts.

How does it get done?

This position is responsible for operating a research library focused on Hispanic history, genealogy, culture and the arts.  This position will catalog and maintain library collections.  The position will oversee and supervise docents, volunteers, and student interns who work in the library.  This position will create, coordinate and Implement history and literary arts exhibits and programming.

Who are the customers?

National Hispanic Cultural Center history and literary arts visitors.

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal candidate has:
– At least three (3) years of experience working as a librarian.
– At least two (2) years of experience providing customer service.
– Has experience implementing exhibits and programming.

Minimum Qualification

Master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or recognized by the appropriate body of another country). Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.  Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Extended periods of sitting with intermittent standing and walking.  Bending and reaching may be required.  Required to lift boxes and books weighing up to 20 lbs.
