New Mexico Military Institute is hiring a Librarian/Cataloger.

About New Mexico Military Institute: The New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) is a state-supported, co-educational institution offering college preparatory education at the high school and junior college levels. With a student body of up to 1,000 cadets, NMMI provides a comprehensive academic experience complemented by Junior and Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs. The high school curriculum is fully accredited, preparing students for higher education and post-secondary studies. The junior college program facilitates cadet transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Additionally, NMMI houses the Intermediate Preparatory Academy (IPA) for grades 6-8. The IPA delivers a distinctive curriculum emphasizing immersive, intensive, hands-on learning in a structured environment.

Position: Under the supervision of the Associate Director of the Paul Horgan Library and the McBride Museum, the Librarian/Cataloger provides professional services by managing information resources and services for the cadets, faculty, staff, and other users of the library, museum, and archives. The Librarian manages all types of information resources and participates actively in all program activities. This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time position with an annual salary of $50,000.00. Tasks:

• Categorize and classify library materials, including books, multimedia, serials, and other documents.
• Follow library standards and guidelines when classifying documents.
• Interpret, apply, and catalog utilizing Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, Library of Congress subject headings, Dewey Decimal Classification, MARC21, and RDA.
• Ensure all material can be retrieved conveniently using standardized methods.
• Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills:

• Knowledge of standard office software and applications, such as but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Contribute.
• Knowledge of standard library management software, such as but not limited to Polaris Integrated Library Systems, OCLC Interlibrary Loan and Cataloging software, and other vendor-specific software and applications.
• Knowledge of NMMI software and applications, such as but not limited to NSH System, School Dude, and ISCT Job Request.
• Knowledge of the principles and best practices of resource cataloging, inventorying, care, and maintenance.
Qualifications:

Required:
• Master’s degree in library science from an educational program accredited by the American Library Association.
• Must obtain the Professional Librarians Certificate issued by the New Mexico State Library within six months of employment.

Preferred:
• Three to five years of previous experience as a professional librarian.
• Bilingual.
