Position Summary The Library of Valencia Campus is accepting applications for a Lecturer III, Librarianship at UNM Valencia Branch Campus position, which is a full-time, 12-month position. The position begins August 12, 2019.

Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch community college associated with the University of New Mexico. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers vocational and technical courses as well as academic transfer courses to the citizens of Valencia and northern Socorro counties. The faculty and staff serve a student body of approximately 2,300 each semester.

Duties and Responsibilities:  Under the general direction of the Library Director, the duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Overall coordination of activities related to library public services (especially library instruction and reference)
    • Develop, coordinate and/or conduct face-to-face and online library instruction sessions and research skills workshops in collaboration with faculty.
    • Plan and execute outreach programs to various teaching disciplines.
    • Design and produce curricular materials, research guides, information-literacy tutorials and other resources in print, web-based, and multimedia formats.
    • Actively participate in the development and assessment of learning outcomes, including analysis and the use of results to improve student learning and access to resources.
    • Coordinate all promotional activities, such as maintaining the Library’s Web Page and Social Media presence, producing brochures and handouts and writing articles for the faculty newsletter.
    • Provide in-person and online reference services to students, faculty and staff using relevant databases and/or integrated library systems.
  • Contribute to collection development activities, including selection and deselection and recommending online and print sources for purchase by the library.
  • Assess and promote the use of emerging technologies for library services and operations.
  • Participate in circulation, cataloging, interlibrary loan and reserve activities.
  • Provide training and work directions to library staff and student workers.
  • Practice sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Participate in college and community service and professional development.
  • Perform other librarian duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree from an American Library Association Accredited program.
  • Two years of directly related experience in providing any combination of library instruction and reference services.
  • Excellent written communication.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • More than two years of directly related experience in providing any combination of library instruction and reference services in an academic institution.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the design, delivery, and assessment of bibliographic instruction sessions, including library orientations and research skills workshops.
  • Knowledge of current teaching pedagogies and experience designing and implementing engaging learning activities.
  • Proficiency in designing, developing and maintaining library services, and informational and instructional materials in web-based and multimedia formats. (e.g., web pages, print, social media).
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of databases and Integrated Library Systems.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to establish positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, administration and community members.
  • Experience using learning and computer technology in face-to-face, blended, and online classrooms.
  • Experience working with under prepared students and awareness of the library’s role in facilitating student success in a community college.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
