Purpose of Position

Why does the job exist?

The Continuing Education Coordinator works in the library Development Bureau of the New Mexico State library serving as a library development consultant with special responsibility for the training needs of public and tribal library staff across New Mexico. Actively seeks opportunities for partnerships and or pilot programs in the federal, state, and private sectors.

How does it get done?

Identifies training needs;
Coordinates and delivers online  and in-person training and workshops;
Contracts with expert trainers and promotes professional development opportunities statewide;
Serves as a consultant to public libraries statewide;
Providing advice and assistance on all aspects of public library services according to recognized best practices and identified community needs; and
Communicates with libraries via phone and email and conducts routine site visits to public and tribal libraries statewide.

Public and tribal librarians and staff across New Mexico. Colleagues at the NM State Library and other DCA divisions.

Ideal Candidate

Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science
Five years public library experience demonstrating progressive responsibilities and professional development Strong project management skills
Additional Preferences include: Strong verbal and written communication skills Familiarity with Community Engagement and Community Asset Mapping
The ability to build productive partnerships and collaborations
Excellent interpersonal skills (friendly, caring, connected, trustworthy, and empowering)

Minimum Qualification

Master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or recognized by the appropriate body of another country) with two (2) years of experience in performing and providing advanced library technical operations, effective library and information services, plus cataloging experience and managerial experience. Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Office setting with extensive personal computer and telephone usage, extended periods of sitting. Overnight in­ state travel frequently required, occasional out-of-state travel also required. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.).
