We are seeking to fill the position of Children’s/Youth Services Librarian at the Silver City Public Library! We strive to foster creativity and innovation in programs for children and youth; for example, we are already running a mobile makerspace twice monthly for youth ages 10+. Responsibilities:
Plans, organizes, directs and manages all aspects of children’s library services to meet the objectives identified in library planning documents, and community needs, expressed or perceived.
–Plans, organizes, and conducts programs for children/teens and caregivers.
–Engages in outreach to schools, daycares, preschools, and other community organizations
–Provides reference and reader’s advisory services to children/teens, teachers, and caregivers
–Develops marketing materials and promotes library resources, programs, and services
–Maintains currency with web and mobile technologies
–Develops and maintains the children’s and young adult library collection, purchases materials, and monitors the budget for the collection
–Participates in the development of policies and standards for children’s/teen services and collections
–Assists in providing training to library staff and volunteers
–Develops teaching and finding aids for public and staff
–Creates displays
Requirements:
–NM Class D Driver’s License
–favorable criminal background check
–NM Librarian Certificate–Grade II, or ability to pass the next NM State Librarian Certification Grade II Exam within 6 months
–Bachelor’s Degree required. Prefer a Masters of Library Science or current enrollment in a Masters of Library Science program (may be substituted with equivalent combination of education and experience)
–two years experience working with children’s library services, children’s literature and reference resources, preferably in a public library; supervisory experience preferred (Tell us about all your experience working with children/youth, children’s/youth literature, and supervising, whether volunteer or paid, library or non-library.)
