Employment Opportunity: Bookmobile East Library Technician

Salary: $34,275 – $53,126 Annually. This position is a Pay Band 50

Why does the job exist? This position is responsible for providing and ensuring quality, tailored, direct public library services for rural New Mexicans. This position will travel in a 31 + foot bookmobile to provide library services throughout the Eastern part of New Mexico and promote the bookmobile program and other NMSL programs in a multi-county-region. Based in Tucumcari, NM.

How does it get done?

1. Provide quality library services on the bookmobile to rural patrons using all appropriate and available resources.
2. Conduct all library services in accordance to policies and procedures as well as tracking quarterly statistics.
3. Assist in managing and building a library collection based on patron preferences and entering that collection in the SirsiDynix Symphony system for check out by patrons and tracking of collection.
4. Promote marketing and outreach of other programs for rural residents such as Books by Mail and Library for the Blind and Print Disabled.
5. Help drive the bookmobile; schedule vehicular maintenance and repairs and maintains an ongoing log of work performed and dates.
6. Submit time sheet in SHARE system, submit per diem forms after traveling, make P-card reservations and perform all duties related to providing library services.

 

Who are the customers? Library patrons in rural New Mexico who access the East Bookmobile.

Ideal Candidate

A High School Diploma or GED and one year experience in library work. Experience scheduling, monitoring and maintaining vehicles. Computer experience and the ability to drive a large vehicle on rural roads. Ordering books and/or materials, reconciling accounts to source documentation and handling monetary transactions. Experience overseeing circulation and resource sharing services in a library. Great customer service and attention to detail.

 

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalent and one and one half (1.5) years of relevant experience. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

• Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.

• If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of “semester hours” in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.

Employment Requirements

Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.  Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Ability to drive 31+ foot bookmobile.

 

Working Conditions

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated August 12, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

In addition, employees working in State correctional facilities who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to inmates are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

On 31+ foot Bookmobile, driving bookmobile on rural roads and highways, climbing, standing, reaching, stooping, lifting and carrying books on and off the bookmobile from the office. Computer use, telephone use, extreme temperatures, noise, vibrations, fumes, odors and dust.
