The New Mexico State Library holds thousands of rolls of microfilm for New Mexico newspapers dating from the territorial period of the 1850’s to the present. These newspapers are a fantastic resource for researchers and genealogists around the country. But because it is common for newspapers to change names – even if only slightly – as ownership of the paper changes, catalog records for newspapers can be a little confusing. Confusing catalog records makes tracking down a specific newspaper challenging.
To make this process a little easier, the New Mexico State Library has created a research guide organizing our newspaper microfilm by location (city or county in NM). We have also added cross-references from county to city and city to county when appropriate. You can find it at New Mexico Newspapers on Microfilm at the State Library
We hope this guide helps you locate what you need, but if you have questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Happy Researching!
