A Sweet Summer in Bosque Farms

The Summer Reading Program at the Bosque Farms Public Library was a sweet success this year! Director Sabrina Edwards shares that the library has seen a big increase in participation this year, perhaps from a broadening of marketing efforts.  The library planned a 6-week Summer Reading Program following the Color Our World theme that welcomed patrons of all ages – from pre-K through adult.  The addition of the Adult Reading Log was especially welcomed by patrons this year – with all ages turning in reading logs to compete for prizes.

On the day of our visit, the library was taking advantage of the gorgeous park that sits just behind the library building for a visit from Ken Hays, of nearby Hays Honey Farm.  Hays kept the audience, young and old, engaged with his extensive knowledge about bees, beekeeping, and the current threat to bee populations.

The Children’s Room decked out for Color Our World.

Immediately following the outdoor presentation was an opportunity to Read to the Dogs in the colorfully decorated Children’s Room, turn in reading logs, check out books, and enter a guess for the Guessing Jar contest. With the elementary school just across the street, the Bosque Farms Public Library stays busy all year, but summers bring a special flurry of activity for all ages.

The New Mexico State Library supports Summer Reading Programs at Bosque Farms, and all public libraries in New Mexico, because of the opportunity they provide to create community and introduce new audiences to library resources.  We congratulate Bosque Farms on a successful summer!
