42 ALA Library Information and Science e-books now available through NMSL’s El Portal!

New Mexico State Library has added a new Library Information Science Collection to Gale eBooks, which covers a wide spectrum of topics. This collection is available through El Portal.

Library managers and directors can find eBooks about building construction, making library spaces dynamic, effective leadership strategies, creating functional workplaces, and how library values of equity and access can foster resiliency in communities. Books about building political support for stable library funding, combatting misinformation, and creating cohesive strategies for addressing book banning and censorship will strengthen information professionals’ ability to persevere in their challenging work. Public librarians and frontline staff can enhance their community engagement with legal, medical, and government information books to improve reference services to patrons.

Youth and school librarians will find resources to revitalize book clubs and hands-on educational programs for children. Librarians can learn how to respond to the wider community’s needs for creative programs, LGBTQAI+ books for children and teens and guidance on encouraging understanding among parents, schools, and communities are essential reading for public and school librarians.

Data science and digital services library professionals will benefit from books about building digital libraries, design thinking, linked data, and digital analytics. Support staff can increase their understanding and confidence in working with data systems, library web development, and electronic resources.

The New Mexico State Library’s print and eBook library and information science collections are essential reading since New Mexico does not have a Master of Library and Information Science programs. MLIS students and librarians in New Mexico can rely on both collections to assist them with their education.
