Social Sciences Librarian for Education
The University of New Mexico College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences (CUL&LS) seeks a Social Sciences Librarian for Education to support a library system with a strong outreach and instruction program. This is a full-time, 12-month tenure-track faculty position. The desired start date is Spring 2020. The annual salary is negotiable based on qualifications and includes full benefits.
Position Description
The Social Sciences Librarian for Education serves as subject specialist for education, focusing on outreach, instruction, research assistance, and collection management for the College of Education, the interdisciplinary Organization, Information and Learning Sciences (OILS) program and the library’s Children’s Literature collection. The individual in this position is part of the Learning & Outreach Services group and also collaborates with colleagues across the CUL&LS. We seek an engaged, innovative, and service-oriented individual who contributes to a dynamic team environment. Education and Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- An earned master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library/information sciences program OR PhD in a related field by the position start date;
- Two or more years of experience supporting research or learning in a library, research, and/or teaching environment.
Preferred (Desired) Qualifications:
Undergraduate or graduate degree in a social science;
Experience in library instruction in face-to-face and online environments;
Experience or demonstrated knowledge with research methods and materials used by social science and education researchers;
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with information literacy concepts and trends (e.g., the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy);
- Experience or demonstrated interest in conducting outreach and engagement efforts with students, faculty, and campus collaborators to support research and instructional endeavors;
- Experience or demonstrated knowledge of best practices in managing and evaluating subject-specific collections;
- Ability to communicate in Spanish or an Indigenous language of the Southwestern U.S.;
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills as well as strong service orientation;
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
Primary Duties
- Serve as primary liaison to, and proactively develop professional relationships with faculty, staff and students in the various College of Education departments and OILS;
- Provide instruction in research and information literacy collaboratively and independently in a variety of settings including face-to-face, hybrid and online;
- Work collaboratively with CUL&LS colleagues to provide support for students and researchers in Education and Social Sciences fields in areas of data management, scholarly communication, etc.;
- Creatively engage in library outreach activities using multiple methods to connect with the diverse campus community, focusing on assigned liaison areas;
- Contributes to library-wide collection development activities related to education including developing and managing electronic, multimedia, and print collections in partnership with social sciences librarian team and other groups;
- Participate in CUL&LS faculty governance and in library management as required;
- Work to meet librarianship & teaching, scholarship and service requirements for promotion and tenure and participate in faculty governance as detailed in the UNM Faculty Handbook (http://handbook.unm.edu/) and College Guidelines.
- Contribute to CUL&LS initiatives that further UNM’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
