LBPH 2017 Annual Volunteer Luncheon and 50th Anniversary Celebration

On Wednesday, October 25th 2017, the New Mexico Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped celebrated it’s 50th Anniversary and honored its many outstanding volunteers.

Steve Prine from the National Library Service delivered a historical retrospective on past achievements and future possibilities of the NLS and talking book libraries, then presented a plaque to John Mugford, Regional Librarian of the New Mexico Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped commemorating 50 continuous years of service to the citizens of New Mexico since 1967.

Every year a LBPH volunteer is recognized for their outstanding individual contributions to the library. This year, John Pen LaFarge, was awarded as 2017 Volunteer of the Year for his long term contributions as narrator and editor creating talking books in our local recording studio.

Sharyn Udall, curator and author, also spoke to the group about her research and published work on Spud Johnson, New Mexican literary figure of the 20th century.
