LBPD FAQ

How do I sign up for library services?
First, read our Eligibility Requirements to see if you qualify. Then fill out or print to fill out our application form then submit by mail, email, or fax to our library. Applying does not guarantee registration. A reader advisor will contact you within 5 business days after we’ve received your application. Please allow an additional 5 business days before inquiry if sent by mail.

Who is a certifying authority?
Please refer to our Eligibility Requirements or contact us. There is also a list available on the application form on page 3.

How do I order materials and equipment?

Please visit our Ordering Materials and Equipment page.

How do I place an order?
By phone, email, mail, fax, or by registering with our local catalog. Please contact us if you need to set up login information for the local catalog.

Can I get a catalog mailed to me?
We can sign you up for the Talking Book Topics audio catalog. They are sent through USPS every other month and do need to be returned within 2 months through the United States Postal Service. They are also available on the NLS website in HTML and PDF formats.

Is there a fee for the talking books to be delivered by mail?
All of our items sent for free under “Free Matter for the Blind & Physically Handicapped” through USPS so there is no cost to our patrons.

How many books can I have at once?
Patrons may have up to 5 cartridges. The number of books on each cartridge varies and can be a set number you decide on.

Can I have two players?
No. All patrons may only have one player as our stock is limited. We encourage patrons to try using the Braille Audio Reading Download (BARD) website or mobile app.

My player isn’t working properly, how do I get a new one?
Contact us and return the broken player so we may fix it. DO NOT attempt to repair the player yourself. If you’ve kept the original box, you may use that to return it by flipping the label that’s inside the plastic window. We’ll send a replacement player as soon as possible. If you do not have the original box, use any box the player will fit into and address it to our library at 1209 Camino Carlos Rey, Santa Fe, NM 87057. Make sure to write “Free Matter for the Blind and Physically Handicapped” on the box to take care of postage.

Can I pick up my books or equipment at the library?
Yes. Please let us know at least a day ahead so that we can have everything ready for you when you arrive.

I can’t sign into my BARD account! Has my account been closed?
Users need to download a book at least every six months to maintain an Active status with BARD. Please contact us by phone or email to unlock your account if this is the case.

I’ll be moving to another state, can I take my player with me?
Yes, you can! There are network libraries all over the US to assist you. Let us know when you are moving and your new contact information and we’ll take care of everything for you.
