WIPP 2014 Compliance Recertification Application

Public Review and Comment Period Begins for WIPP Recertification by EPA.

The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, located east of Carlsbad, is seeking compliance recertification by the Environmental Protection Agency this year.  The New Mexico State Library is one of four designated “WIPP Reading Rooms” in the state that curate official publications and documents and are intended to provide relatively easy access to citizens who want to learn more about the nuclear waste repository.  Recent problems at the WIPP involving an underground vehicle fire and subsequent release of radioactive material into the atmosphere have delayed the certification process and halted waste depository operations pending investigations.  For your convenience, the links to the recertification application and WIPP are below.
