Library director.  The Placitas Community Library Board of Directors seeks a library director for a part-time, paid position. Placitas is an unincorporated area of approximately 5,200 residents north of Albuquerque and east of Bernalillo.  PCL was established in 2004, and is a 501c3 full-service public library that is staffed by approximately 50 volunteers and funded through donations, bond issues, and grants.  The director serves as head of the library, proposes and implements library projects and policies, and provides leadership for continuous improvement of service to the community.  General responsibilities include overseeing budget/finance, collection management, personnel, facility, services, and chairing the Management Team of library service area coordinators.
The Board seeks someone who is committed to the mission and philosophy of public library service and to the Placitas community; has excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; can work effectively with the library board, elected officials, and community groups; has the ability to support, supervise, and motivate volunteer staff; has computer expertise; and has an MLIS or equivalent experience. The successful candidate is not required to live in Placitas. Preferred start date: January 1, 2011. Library tech.  The College of Santa Fe is searching for a Library Technician (Req #: laur-0000591) to work a Saturday-Wednesday schedule.  The position requires evening work until 11 p.m.  This position is responsible for collaboration with library services staff.  The Library Technician will coordinate the library's document delivery service and support the work of the library's teams.  The Library Tech is responsible for providing excellent customer service to all patrons using the library and for providing support for all the technical aspects of the library's functions.  Responsibilities include: serving students, faculty, staff, and community members at the circulation desk; assisting patrons with library resources and equipment; processing library materials; creating exhibits; training and supervising workstudy students; shelving books, DVDs, music, and periodicals; providing minimal reference assistance; shifting and moving library collections; assembling shelving and furniture; assisting with the college archives; and opening and closing the library.  The Library Tech is also responsible for enforcing all library policies and must be comfortable with independent decision making and working alone.  Requires a B.A. degree, experience in library or equivalent setting (i.e., library vendor or consortium), familiarity with library databases and search techniques, proficiency in M.S. Library director.  New Mexico Junior College is advertising for applicants to fill the position of  Director of Library Services.  This position is responsible to the Vice President for Instruction. As the Director of Library Services, this person’s responsibilities include: supervision of all library personnel; developing policies and procedures for the library; administer the library budget; administer the U.S. Federal and New Mexico State Publications Depository Programs; administer the technical and public services section; provide reference service to patrons; serve as the College’s representative on the Estacado Library Information Networks (ELIN) Management Council; serve as the College liaison to local, state, and federal library organizations; and work closely with the faculty and community in support of their needs. Nothing contained herein shall limit the president in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.  Qualifications are a Master of Library Science degree from a regionally accredited institution with ALA accreditation. The candidate will have a thorough working knowledge of integrated library automation systems and be familiar with current trends and issues in library technology and the provision of services. The candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to articulate a vision for library services and apply that vision to the needs of the community and its constituencies. The candidate will have a proven ability to manage people and foster teamwork in a higher education library setting. New Mexico Junior College is a comprehensive community college with a full range of transfer and vocational/technical programs. Librarian.  New Mexico State University Library invites applications for the position of Acquisitions Librarian (12 month appointment, non-tenure track, College Assistant Professor).  Req. #2010005726.  With the budget management team, the Acquisition Librarian plans, develops, and manages Voyager fund allocations and fund structure within the base budget ledger for the library materials budget ($2+ million); works closely with collection development coordinator and subject specialists regarding budgetary aspects of collection development; in consultation with the department head develops and implements policies, standards, goals, and procedures to continuously improve workflow; provides leadership and supervision of staff in the Acquisitions Unit; conducts performance reviews and provides input for merit assessments. Librarian.   San Juan College has an opening for a Reference Librarian, Part-Time (20 Hrs Per Week) – $23,000.   The Reference Librarian reports directly to the Director of Library Services and is responsible for reference service, circulation and administrative support. The successful candidate will provide enthusiastic and creative reference services including instruction and assistance to library users, reference service, collection development, and general participation on the reference team. Responsibilities include: remaining informed and up-to-date on relevant trends in instructional and reference services; provide and promote reference services to all library patrons; explore and develop opportunities to integrate library resources and services into campus curriculum; collaborate with librarians and staff to develop instructional materials, orientations, workshops, and classes; assist in developing, teaching, and evaluating information literacy and library instruction sessions and associated material. Evening and weekend shifts are required.  Requires a Master’s degree in Library Science and a minimum of three years library experience. Experience with instruction and reference services (traditional and electronic) is highly desirable. Computer experience should include HTML, Microsoft Office software, and familiarity with Web 2.0 library related resources. Candidate must have solid communications skills and a commitment to customer service. Physical Requirements: Varied walking, standing, sitting and bending with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs of books, library materials and/or related office equipment and supplies.
