State Publications Program

The State Publications Depository Program disseminates the information compiled and published by state agencies as widely as possible in order for all New Mexico citizens to have access to the reports, minutes, statistics, newsletters, bulletins, impact statements and countless other studies published each year by the various state agencies and commissions.

This is accomplished through the State Depository Clearinghouse at the New Mexico State Library (NMSL) to which state agencies send 30 copies of all paper publications for filing, distribution and public access. NMSL keeps 3 copies of each publication for historical, research and circulation purposes, sends one copy to the New Mexico State Records and Archives Department, sends two copies to the library of Congress and distributes all other publications to 24 depository libraries around the State of New Mexico. Web-based and born digital State Publications are filed by state agencies with the State Library, digitally archived and available for permanent access through the State Library's online catalog SALSA.

STATE AGENCY INFORMATION:

The depository library system for state government publications was established in 1978 when the New Mexico State Legislature passed legislation setting up the State Documents Depository Clearinghouse at the State Library (18-2-4. J NMSA) and requiring agencies to deposit copies of their publications with the Clearinghouse (18-2-4.1NMSA and 1.25.10.1 NMAC).

State Agencies should file paper publications with the State Publications Clearinghouse via mail, inter-agency mail or in person at New Mexico State Library, State Publications Program, 1209 Camino Carlos Rey, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87507.
