Interlibrary Loan Basic Policies
We accept ILL requests through the ILLiad program on the State Library website. ILLiad serves as an interface between the ILL Department and you. It provides you with a record of your past ILL requests and with the status of your current requests. Please call us for further information (1-800-477-4401, or 505-476-9709).
First-time borrowers will need to register on the ILLiad web-page. Then enter the book or article citation information into the ILLiad software. The more information we have, the more successful we are in obtaining material.
We will receive your book in an average of 10 working days, and notify you it has arrived. Certain articles we can have faxed to your office within 24 hours, others also average about 10 working days.
There are currently no limits on the number of journal articles you may request, other than those imposed by copyright guidelines. However, there is a limit of 5 books you may borrow at one time from ILL. When you return the first 5, we can request 5 more. (Our library clients may set different limits).
Although usually ILL material is free, sometimes there is a charge for borrowing. rare, old, or technical material. We always discuss any costs with you before requesting material. To pay for agreed to charges, you may either write a personal check and seek reimbursement, or take the invoice back to your agency.
Most lenders will renew books at least one time, but please enter your renewal request into ILLiad 4-5 days before the due date. We will have a much easier time renewing, if the book is not overdue.
